Course description

For beginners who require an intensive introduction to the Spanish language.
This course provides a solid foundation for understanding Spanish and learning more. This is achieved in a systematic way, with students becoming familiar with the system of sounds, vocabulary, and form of the language as the course progresses. This course is for people who wish to learn this language over a period of time, following a step by step approach. It will take you from a very basic level to a more elaborated use of the language where everyone can express their own ideas. The course will continue to the next level in the following term if there are sufficient enrolments.

What your course will cover

The following grammar

  • Nouns, adjectives, pronouns.
  • Hay.
  • Introduction to the three basic tenses (simple past, present, future) of regular verbs.
  • Hacer – an irregular verb.
  • Ser/estar – the verbs ‘to be’.

Undertake the following oral work

  • Sound/pronunciation.
  • Basic greetings.
  • Simple questions and answers based on model sentences and the grammar points covered.

Prerequisites

  • As this is a very intensive course it requires students to make a substantial commitment to additional study. Julio also encourages his students to attend at least one of his additional weekly classes. These classes are free, are independent of LINC Tasmania, and are held at a city venue. Please note that it will be difficult to keep up with this class without undertaking this extra work or spending at least 2 hours per week reviewing the work undertaken in your class.

What to bring

  • Pen and note book for work done in class.
  • A folder for your many handouts – an expandable A4 folder with plastic sleeves is recommended.
  • Spanish/English dictionary.
  • Please bring a laptop or USB to the first session

Important information

  • PLEASE NOTE Julio does not use a text book.
  • Most language classes fill up quickly. However, your class could be cancelled if not enough people enrol. If you are concerned about buying a book that may be of no use to you then please check the viability of your class with adult education before purchasing.

Please note that children must not attend this class unless it is a specified parent/child activity.
